Jordyn's family day

Hi- it was Jordyn's family day on the 23rd of March. We went to see the Lion King on broadway to celebrate a few weeks before. I don't think she loved it but she tolerated it and Dave, Zoe and myself had a great time. We have been truly blessed with a fabulous child with a wonderful sense of humor ( when she wants to show it). I have been amazed by Jordyn at every moment we have shared together. We love you to the infinity and back, baby!!!

Who doesn't love a parade? We went with some great friends to see the parade in Flushing (Chinatown) today. This one isn't as big as the one in Chinatown in NYC but it was certainly easier to get to with small children. All the kids seem to have a blast and it was a great afternoon!

I know it has been many months since I posted. So much time has passed and the girls have kept me very busy. We have celebrated the holidays, Valentine's day, Chinese New Year and have had a ton of fun. We are lucky to live in an area where there are some large Chinese New Year celebrations and we are going to go to one of the parades tomorrow with some of our amazing friends. Zoe was happy to dance on stage at Chinese school ( and Jordyn was happy not to do that). I had the pleasure of spending the whole last week with Jordyn by ourselves. We went into the city a couple of times and I love that she knows which subway to take. We went to Max Brenner's place ( the chocolate bald guy) definately one of my new favorite places as well as visited her Uncle Darrin and her Dad at work. I was lucky to receive a card this morning that had a picture of the two of us on the cover, both smiling with flowers and lots of hearts and a big I love you inside ( this is huge people!!) Sometimes I can't tell if she's happy to spend the alone time with me but apparently she was. Today her class had a bowl a thon for Haiti and the newspaper came to do a story on the kids. Jordyn was so happy she actually smiled and let the photographer take her picture.I can't wait to see the article. Thank you to all my friends and family who donated!!

I love this time of year, the leaves are turning, the smell of firewood burning (not that you get that too much in the city) apples and pumpkin picking and of course one of my cutie pies birthdays, which is almost here. We also celebrated family day not to long ago. I cannot believe that Zoe has only been with us 3 years, it feels like she has always been here. Jordyn is so good with her little sister and Zoe is just as good with her. There is nothing more I want than for the two of them to be the best of friends and the closest of sisters. Right now they are sometimes inseperable and I hope it stays that way. We had a great family weekend and we were able to see some of our wonderful friends.

It has been a while and I don't know where the summer has gone. We have spent our days at the beach from morning until night. The girls had a great time at camp this year but I do think they are excited to go back to school. Jordyn did donate her hair to Locks of Love and I adore her new haircut. It's also so much easier to handle now and should make our mornings a little easier. Since this week is our last before school starts we went to Adventureland the other day with some good friends and later this week we'll be at Sesame Place. Mind you Zoe doesn't watch it ( she's a big Noggin girl) but is very excited to go. I wish she was a little more familiar with the characters but I'm sure it won't stop the fun.

When did that happen? When did our baby turn 7? She is becoming more mature every day. Jordyn loves to read, do art and boss her sister around- she is like a mini grown up sometimes. She had a great birthday and we had a great time celebrating.We had a party last month because she wanted a bunch of her school friends there and then we had family over and continued our festivities at the beach. Jordyn is so much fun to spend time with and I love how much fun I have with her. She has an amazing sense of humor. David said I would kick the soccer ball around with her and she just burst out laughing ( anyone who knows me well knows I hate physical activity, especially with a ball!!) This was one of my favorite Jordisms-

Jordyn: Grandma J doesn't really know how to babysit - Anyone who knows my mom- knows thats funny!!

Very Thankful!!

We are very thankful that Jordyn came through last weeks procedure with no major difficulty. She had three hours work of extensive dental work and was put under general anesthesia for it. I hope none of the children I know ever have to go through that. She was "off" for a few days but today I think she was finally almost back to herself.

Before the procedure last week we were lucky to have some great friends come visit us at the beach. Jordyn and Zoe were able to go to camp with our friends, I think they all had an amazing time- I know we did.

The summer has been great! The girls are both having fun at camp and having a good time at the beach. I love this time of year, I can finally relax and truly have fun with them!!

This is my favorite time of year! School is out and my cuties go to camp for a few hours a day. I can relax, scrapbook and get organized. Right now I'm feeling pretty stressed though. Jordyn is having major dental work done on the 9th and will be having general anesthesia. I feel like I need a valium drip for the next few days. I know I'm suppose to be the strong one and be the rock. I'm a rock when I don't have time to think and fester about all the things that can happen, right now I'm a bowl of mush. She doesn't even know this is going to happen until that day. Everyone please wish me luck and send positive thoughts our way.

On another note I don't usually follow all the celebrity news but I have to say I felt quite abit of sadness from Farrah and MJ's passing. You know you had to feel bad about Farrah because MJ stole the thunder. They probably met up in heaven (or wherever you think we go) and Farrah must have been like- really, really you couldn't wait one or two more days could you?!!

Let's hope for no rain this weekend!!

We did the party early this year- Jordyn wanted her school friends to come. Definitely my favorite party that we have had. This was the last one though, next year maybe just the girls in her class and a separate one for her close friends.

Unfortunately, we also found out this week that Jordyn needs 2 root canals and a whole lot of other dental work. I do not have the thousands of dollars of dollars it is going to cost not only for the dental work but for my poor baby to have general anesthesia. I don't really discuss her issues but there are some and she will have to be under for the work to be completed. Wish me luck going up against the insurance company to cover it. Camp starts in a few days and I think the girls ( at least Zoe) is looking forward to it.

Zoe graduated from the 3's and will go into pre-k next year, I can't believe how much this little munchkin has grown. She is so full of happiness and life- I wish I could be that happy all the time . (without adult substances) She is always smiling.

I know every year I say I can't believe it's been another year- but that is the way I feel. I really do not know where the time has gone. It really seems like it was not that long ago I was on the phone with some great ladies (Michele and Grace) talking about what to pack, what will the babies be like, can I buy another suitcase to put in all the crap I'm going to buy :) I don't know what childbirth is like but I will never forget the moment my girls were put into our arms. Every year we ask Jordyn what she wants to do for family day- this year it was the circus and sushi.

It doesn't happen often that they cancel school here- so we were quite psyched this morning when the announcement came. There was no way I was driving anyway, nor was I putting my child on a bus. I know it's really hard for those bright, intelligent and oh so caring powers that be at the education department to think outside the box and close school because it's not safe. I was till waiting for the announcement that the schools were closed but the teachers had to report because you all know if you work for the board of Ed- that idea is not so far fetched.

So anyway we got together with good friends and played in the snow. I of course was freezing before I even got 2 feet from the door.

I just want to add, i bought Jordyn bathing suits and spring clothes this weekend. I guess the snow would be my fault!

Museum of Natural History

I love the museum of Natural History and I love that Jordyn likes to go. We had a really nice day and I love that she likes to soak up all the info. We saw the IMAX movie- Dinosaurs Alive, pretty cool. We did a ton of walking and I am so happy she is such a good sport about it. She was even great about the subway ride there and how we had to switch trains a few times. She is definitely my go with the flow girl when it comes to traveling. I look forward to going away with her in the future.

I have been lazy

and very busy- doing the usual work, being with the kids, sleep, etc.. The holidays were great to sum it up- went snow tubing for the first time I loved it and so did Zoe, Jordyn hated it. Her words to me were-" You won't ride a Ferris wheel but you'll do this?!!!!" Jordyn has gotten much better at ice skating and school is keeping her busy. I tried to explain to her how awesome it was about the new president and maybe some day the president could be Chinese. I'm not sure if our girls would be allowed to run for president.( We like to set the bar high in this house :) ) We are getting ready for Chinese New Year and all the fun festivities that go along with it.

I love all the holiday parties the kids have- it's so much fun to see them get dressed up. Of course Zoe wants to wear the same dress over and over- so here it is for your viewing pleasure:) The girls are looking forward to the holidays and I can't wait to spend time with them without all the hustle and bustle of everything else. I took the girls to the zoo this past weekend. The zoo used to do something at night but now is going green so it's in the daytime. They had such a great time. They also enjoyed playing with the boxes the gifts have come in!!

I have been so busy- I really have been bad about updating. We took the girls on Thanksgiving eve to see the balloons being displayed before the Macy's parade. I was actually supposed to meet up with some friends but it was so crowded we never were even able to see each other. Dave was really happy to be there with all the people and a screaming 3 year old- he couldn't have been anymore thrilled:) The girls did like to see the parade the next day on tv with all the balloons they saw. Needless to say I won't be taking them again until they are teens. All here is good, Thanksgiving is always a fun time of year for me, I get to see a lot of old friends and see how well we are aging. It's amazing I look like crap but feel like I'm in High school.

I have been busy and somewhat lazy! The girls are doing great- I know I shouldn't brag, but I have to just a little. Jordyn is doing so well in school I could cry. She is with an amazing teacher who is starting to get her out of her shell and into a comfort zone. There are only 15 children in the class, so that is huge for Jordyn. Last year at this time the teacher reported she would not even speak to her. ( I didn't really like the teacher and could not blame Jordyn :)

Zoe is doing nicely and loves her teachers. They do a lot of great stuff at her school as well. All she wants to do is dress up like a ballerina.

Mohonk

Every year we go up to Mohonk Mountainhouse. This year we went with Amy, Darrin and Raenen. The girls had a blast even though Zoe slept most of the afternoon. I think this is one of the presttiest places. I love the lake and unfortunately, we were unable to go up the mountian but I promised Jordyn defiantely next year. She was disappointed, apparently she has not realized that her Mom is not the most physically fit person. That was not the reason we didn't go- between Zoe napping and the stroller it just wasn't going to work out. They have a brand new spa up there I have yet to check out but hopefully will get a chance to in the future. Then Jordyn can see what a lazy shit her Mom really is :)

County Fair

Every Fall they have a county fair here ( in the City). The girls went on rides, watched pig races (which was my favorite) , ate and did various other activities. Jordyn actually shocked me when she agreed to walk across a rope bridge. We were very proud of her, she has been showing so much more confidence lately and it is wonderful. So far the decision to switch schools was a good one.

We celebrated at the Zoo with Darrin, Amy and Raenen. All the girls had a blast even though it was insanely hot. I really feel like we have been a family for much longer than 2 years. Another highlight of the week for us has also been that Zoe is toilet trained. They told me at school to put her in underwear and so far so good! Although, I do find it easier to just put on a pull up. I'm not looking forward to long car rides or being out in public looking for bathrooms.

2 Amazing Years

It really does not seem like 2 years ago we were so lucky to have Zoe become an addition to our family. I can remember it so vividly. We went into the government building in Nanchang. Jordyn was so excited ( just like we were) to meet her new sister. The referral picture actually showed a baby with hair and pale. Well- I video taped the wrong child- thinking oh, she's so quiet and so sweet, aren't we lucky? Imagine our surprise when we were handed a screaming, shaved very dark baby. We were like- no, no the quiet one- over there. Zoe was crying and then all hell broke lose when Jordyn gave her the toy she picked out and it was thrown to the ground. Jordyn started crying and we went back as the happy family to our hotel room. Two years later, Zoe now cries when Jordyn has to leave for school in the morning. If there is a spat between the two of them and Jordyn gets disciplined, I hear, "Why are you bothering my sister?" I hope this keeps up until they're older- so Zoe can defend her sister. Zoe is so full of life and loves everything from school to her new pet fish. She gets so excited about everything. There are always cheers for something in our house weather it's Dora or some type of snack. We are so lucky to have this adorable, spirited child in our family. Here are some then and now pictures.

Losing teeth

A few days ago at the beach club- Jordyn had a loose tooth. A few of my friends and I were relaxing with mimosas on the sand. ( I know- very responsible mother) Jordyn had gone to the bathroom and was carried back screaming and blood covering her mouth. Dave and I knew it was her tooth- so we didn't panic. Apparently, when she came out of the bathroom with a water bottle in her mouth a little boy ran into her ( by accident).She was a great sport about it and as soon as we cleaned her up she went out to run in some of the races they do at the club. I went to go visit Ileana,Chris and Sophie in Chicago a few days ago. I had the pleasure of meeting Ileana's friend Kim as well as other Chicago Mom's- all of whom adopted from China as well. They were all so nice and of course- now I want to move to Chicago, I love that city. Chris and Ileana go to their farmer's market and I was so inspired I started to visit one near our house as well. Sophie is adorable and the next time we see each other I'll bring the whole family.

Birthday Month

July is filled with my families birthdays as well as lots of friends. We had Jordyn's party and I have to say we were pretty disappointed. It was supposed to be a dance party and there was not much dancing. Jordyn was ok with it and seemed happy, she did say she wished there had been more dancing. On a other note- I had an awesome birthday!! It was a big one (21) My friends rock!!! A bunch of them took me to the Spice Market in the city on my big day and then the week continued at the Beer Gardens with a whole other bunch of friends. I have to say it is so nice to be surrounded by such awesome, fun people. Of course this celebration continues in Chicago this weekend with Ileana and some of her fun friends out there. Next year won't be quite as exciting. My mother also had a big birthday today- so Saturday evening we were invited to her house for a small intimate dinner- but we all had to bring the kids. We brought them ( with a bunch of DVD's which we were told we would not need- joke right?) My mom actually hired Giggles ( the clown) to come entertain our kids and do face painting- she does awesome face painting so we could eat in peace, how cool? It was great!! Jordyn was totally surprised. The wait was long to get into the park- we got there at 5:15 am but people had slept out all night. We were in- and were center stage at the halfway mark. It was very hard to see Miley but when I held Jordyn up she was able to catch a few glimpses. No matter what happens later on in life when she choses to tell her therapist everything she better mention but my mom did take me to see Miley in the wee hours of the morning. ( That should cancel some things out-right?) She wanted with going to the beach today so we went to see Wall-E after and then she wanted to eat sushi. The girls were sleeping by 8:15 - huge in our house. Tomorrow is Jordyn's birthday party- of course a High School Musical dance party- what else? Here are some pics from today. That's how we feel about the last day of school in our house. We are about to go to Zoe's little daycare graduation. I can't believe next year this little munchkin is going to be in preschool. Hopefully because of peer pressure she'll decide to think it' s cool to go on the potty. We aren't having much success. I am so proud of our girls- Jordyn had a great report card- of course like her Mom- she only did ok in gym. She doesn't ever have to know how I wouldn't even participate in gym as I got older. So much stress

Jordyn was accepted to another school this week. This was wonderful news except I've been so upset trying to figure out how she was going to get there and what afterschool program we could use. Well- all the planets aligned yesterday and it has worked out just beautifully. We are covered on all ends. The school looks wonderful and I hope its as good as I think it will be. We're really just waiting for the school year to end and get our summer started!!!

Earthquake

I know everyone has heard about the earthquake that happened in China in May for those of you who may still want to give here is an update from one of our favorite's. I happen to love Half the Sky -they actually had a nutrition program in Zoe's SWI. I forwarded the past update here.

Dear Friends,

It was a Children’s Day with not enough children

Here in Sichuan, Sunday was filled with both sadness and hope. For those
parents who lost their only child, it was a day of immeasurable anguish.
For those families still whole or partially intact, it was a time of sad
resolve to get on with the task of rebuilding their lives and the lives of
their children. For children who survived but lost a parent, schoolmates,
teachers, home, the holiday toys and candies were small comfort. Still,
life goes on and the children will slowly begin to heal. They will need
help.

It is now reported that 7,000 children died on May 12.

But many, many thousands more survived. Thankfully, the numbers truly
orphaned are much smaller than first believed.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs told us that 420 children are
confirmed orphaned. The government continues to search for living
relatives of another 1072. Those numbers, though, represent only a small
portion of the many thousands of children who need help.

Children who have lost one parent. Children grieving for their lost
parents even as they have been reunited with their grandparents or other
extended family. The estimated 16,000 children who were injured during the
quakes. And countless others children who are struggling to deal
emotionally with the horror they have experienced. These are children
whose lives were really just beginning—and now must begin again.

Thanks to your generosity, we have helped the surviving children by
bringing them much-needed supplies, including supplies to the stranded
children in the isolated mountains of Aba, where roads were buried under
landslides, and to the children of Leigu, whose villages were threatened
by flood. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped us buy and get those
supplies to the children quickly in the chaotic first days. Thanks to the
amazing crew at Gung Ho Films, to the extraordinary Sichuan volunteers
from Silk Road Telecommunications, to our volunteer shoppers and shippers
in Chengdu and around China, and to our extraordinary donors who provided
the funds that enabled us to act so quickly to get the supplies to the
children.

Now that we have completed that first phase of our earthquake relief
effort, it is time for Half the Sky to help the youngest survivors begin
to heal emotionally. Though we have never provided emotional support for
children in the wake of a natural disaster, we have over the last decade
provided that support for 15,000 children living in social welfare
institutions who have lost their families - delivering such care is the
essence of Half the Sky.

In preparation for our first workshop with the US National Center for
School Crisis and Bereavement, our field staff spent last observing and
interacting with children living in temporary shelters and welfare
institutions. While the world is rejoicing that they survived, many of
these children are mourning the friends and family members who did not and
wondering why they are the “lucky” ones. Others are in shock, unable to
face the pain of loss of those they depended on most.

At a shelter in Chengdu, one middle schooler who was evacuated from
Wenchuan told our team:

“The first floor of the school disappeared. The second floor became the
first floor. Our teachers were too busy helping us to have time for their
own children. We carried two injured students from the collapsed building
to a tent on a mountain top. We stayed in the mountains after that and
lived on potatoes that weren’t ripe and shared 2-3 Bottles of water among
more than 60 of us every day. Later, two students died in the tent. It
rained and rained. We knew there could be landslides because we knew a big
aftershock could happen at any time, but we didn’t know what to fear any
more.”

At at the Sichuan Children’s Activity Center west of Chengdu, our team
learned about a boy who feels guilty that he was not able to save the girl
that sat next to him in class. When the building was about to collapse,
the boy managed to run out of the building. Some of his classmates were
not so lucky and he tried pulling his classmate whose leg was stuck in the
rubble. Unfortunately he did not succeed and the girl later died. Now he
feels guilty that he could not save his friend and talks about it over and
over.

And our staff filed this heartbreaking report from the Zitong Children’s
Welfare Institute:

“A boy arrived at the institution with a bandage on one side of his
head.The staff gave him a name and estimated that he is two years old.
Every time the institution gate opens he runs to it and says “baba,”
“mama,” the only words he knows. The expression of his face is one of
sadness and fear without security. There was no smile on this face during
the whole time we were there.”

On Monday, in cooperation with the MCA and the National Center for School
Crisis and Bereavement, we held our first Sichuan Caregiver Traing Project
workshop at the Chengdu CWI, a milestone on that long road to bring
emotional relief to the children. While we tried to keep the first
workshop small, because we knew that we needed to have time and
interactive discussion in order to make plans for the next steps, it was
not possible. The need for caregiver support is just too great. By the
workshop’s second day, we included 90 volunteers who’d been working in
shelters as well as administrators from the two largest shelters in
Chengdu. There will be no shortage of trainees as our field staff and
experts head out into hard-hit areas today.

The questions from caregivers and volunteers were challenging. Do we try
to gently tell the children who cling to the hope that their parents are
alive that they are instead likely dead? How do we reach children who have
shut down, refusing to talk about what they went through yet screaming in
the night from memories too horrible to consider during the day? How can
we help a child who won’t eat, a child who lives in her imagination? Do we
let them see us cry? How do we keep our own sanity as we try to be there
for the children? Sadly, the experts in child trauma during disaster have
heard the questions and have seen the suffering many times before. They
were able to provide tools for caregivers and for children, as well as
reassurance that they will be there to help as the healing process begins.

Yesterday, after the workshop, we visited a shelter in Chengdu. Children
told us of seeing their friends killed, of waking up next to dead bodies,
of their fear of falling asleep, their fear of being indoors.

We know that with this workshop our new work is just beginning….we have
pledged to work with other organizations and with government to help the
children in Sichuan for as long as help is needed. There is no question
that this will be a long process and that we will need the help of all of
you, who have already given so much.

We know you want to help because our mailboxes are full of offers of
tents, blankets, diapers, and strong backs to help rebuild. These are
wonderful offers but we cannot accept them now that we have moved on to
the work of helping children emotionally.

What we do need is financial support and your trust that we are exploring
and will develop and carry out a plan for maximum impact on children’s
lives. In turn, we commit to report in detail, and often, how we are using
the resources you are so generously supplying. By the end of this week,
we expect to be able to report more fully on our midterm and longterm
plans in Sichuan. We anticipate that the work may last for 2-3 years. As
the emergency eases, we will make certain that Half the Sky’s direct
involvement will be limited, as it must, by our mission (providing

Every year, in June, we launch a Children’s Day campaign to raise funds to

our programs and open new, comprehensive Blue Sky Model Centers. Never

Of the US$600,000 you have so generously committed to help the children of
Sichuan, we have spent approximately one-half on emergency relief. We
should have a full accounting very soon. We do not yet know what the cost
of our long-term effort to rebuild lives will be, but hope to have more
information as the plans develop and the numbers of children in need of

Sorry it has been so long, Zoe's been doing much better after an ear infection and a set back. Her numbers went down but are up again so we are keeping our fingers crossed. Things are pretty busy and crazy right now but it's all good. Jordyn and Zoe are doing so nicely together I actually get a few minutes to myself now and then. I'm posting some new photos. Enjoy!!

Zoe's platelet number doubled since Tuesday!!! Hopefully it will keep going up . We do not need to go to the hospital and we are so thankful and relieved. Thank all of you so much for the calls and emails. We are looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend !!

Hematologist- update

The doctors were great and the office rocks!! Don't get me wrong this is not the place I want any of our children spending their time- Zoe's platelet levels fell but the Hematologist wants us to try to wait until Friday morning to see if her body corrects itself. I agreed, I'm not one to give a ton of drugs so fast if the possibility is there for things to get better on their own. We already have our plan in place in case she needs to be admitted to the hospital for treatment on Friday. Dave is going to be on duty since I took off today. He will go with a packed bag of pj's, diapers, etc... I will meet him after I get Jordyn. We will switch and Jordyn and her Dad will go for a fun night at Dave and Busters. We hope this does not happen but we want to be prepared. The hardest thing is making sure Zoe does not hurt her head. Thank you all for your emails and phone calls it is truly appreciated. I will keep everyone up to date.

It was hot and it was crowded, but with the advice from many of our friends we were able to navigate and fast pass a lot. Dave and I would separate from time to time to make it easier. Jordyn loved all the rides . She did Everest, the rapids, space mountain, runaway train, Soarin, Mission space, test track and other really fast scary rides that her Mom cannot go on. Dad loves this stuff so it worked out well. I took Zoe on Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo and a lot of the shows. We met up with great friends, ate at Morocco in Epcot as well as the Beer Gardens another night. The Fantasmic show was amazing , it plays in MGM ( Hollywood) . We had breakfast with the Princesses one morning ( Zoe loved this) and Jordyn did get to go to the Bippity Boppity Boutique for her big Diva makeover. We stayed in Port Orleans in the French Quarter. It was good, we really were not in the room that much. The pool is great for kids and you can rent boats go for carriage rides and other cool things.
On a much different note- something happened to Zoe. She has a bunch of bad bruises and we have had some blood work done with more to follow. We have been in the ER and they think it is something that started with a virus. Her platelets are extremely low so we have to be really careful right now. There can be no rough housing and if there is any bleeding or head trauma it's straight to the ER. I am bringing her to the hematologist tomorrow so please say a little prayer that all will be ok with her. I'm sure she will be ok.

First, I want to thank everyone who was concerned about my well being. I'm fine- I just faint once in a while. I am a little mortified when I see my pediatrician but so be it. We did find out that Zoe is allergic to penicillin. I really need everyone to be well for next week. We went to get spring shoes today at Stride Rite and we came very close to having a tiff with another girl. Zoe was playing with the interlocking wheels on the wall and some very cute girl ( looks are deceiving) came over pushed her out of the way and then wouldn't let her play. I very nicely told Zoe," tell her to share". Zoe's feelings were hurt so bad she wouldn't walk back over. I said a few things loud enough for the Mom to hear but I wasn't sure if she spoke English. I did tell Zoe if she touches you again- push her back. I'm not one to really want my children to have altercations with anyone but I don't want them picked on either. I want them to be able to hold their own. It makes me so sick to see these videos of kids beating each other up.

Eventful Day

We had quite the day yesterday- I ended up taking Jordyn back to her pediatrician so they could make sure her walking pneumonia was gone. I was not feeling that well and ended up passing out in the office when it was our turn to go in. I love my pediatrician- she was wonderful but I now had all these people around me and Jordyn freaked. It was a major setback for us and of course she ended up throwing up all over herself so I'm sure they can't wait for us to come back . Anyway she seems calmer today and tomorrow I'm off to the cardiologist's office. The fun never stops. I'm posting pictures of fun things- no puke!!

Jordyn's family day!!!

Today was Jordyn's 5th family day. I cannot believe it has been 5 years since this little angel was placed in our arms. I am amazed at what a beautiful, delightful girl she has turned into. We really did think she was going to be bald forever. We had a wonderful weekend. We started Thursday with seeing a movie with one of her classmates after school. ( College Road Trip) cute, rated G. I can't imagine Jordyn in 1st grade let alone college.Then we had a craft night at her school. The weekend continued with seeing great friends and family, the Easter egg hunt and the show a Gazillion Bubbles. Here are some then and now pictures.

Ok- I know it's almost over but it has been wonderful. I actually got a lot of time off. It started last Friday with my book group dinner, then Saturday in the city with my girlfriends celebrating another one of us turning 21( lots of chuckles here). We stayed over in a hotel and had a blast. Monday Dave and I spent a few nights at the Borgata in Atlantic City. I love the spa there and we had very nice Mommy and Daddy time. Both our mothers rock for taking the kids!! The girls have been having a lot of fun and we have been seeing friends the rest of the week. Jordyn and I made a snowman as well as a snow alligator today. We were inspired by the dragon Chris made with Sophie in Chicago recently. I am very excited for our next vacation since it involves a mouse and Orlando Florida!!!

I was pretty sick this week with strep and tonsillitis. It was bad- but I was able to get the medicine I needed and now I'm fine. This brings me to my next point. What is currently happening in China with the storms. The citizens are having a hard enough time with no electric, no heat, lack of food, etc... Now imagine the children in the orphanages. Most of them weren't in the best conditions before the weather. We could assume many of them are sick and didn't have sufficient food before- this all makes for a very bad situation. If anybody wants to help - there is an organization called Half the Sky- they are working to get some of the orphanages what they need. Here is the link -

Thanks to my good friend Michele ( who I met during our first adoption journey) she reminded me that on January 20th, 2003 we first saw Jordyn's picture. I remember it so clearly. Dave and I had gone to a Genovese Drug store and were waiting on line. I got the call on my cell phone and I wrote everything on the store circular, which I still have. I remember thinking OMG she's 6 months she's so little. When we came home and sat in front of the computer( dial up) this is the little cutie pie who we fell madly in love with.. I also added a more recent picture. Time really does go so fast!!!

It's been a great week of running around, seeing friends- the ones that live here and the ones that came to visit. We have actually gone out for a few nights of big people entertainment which has been really fun. We went to the city on Christmas Day and saw the tree. We also went over to Bryant Park where Jordyn went on the carousel. I was able to see the Kite Runner- and for anybody that didn't read it- it is awesome. The movie was good-of course the book better.

Thanksgiving was wonderful.. I love my family and friends. It is always so nice that I get together with my friends of over.. 30+ years. We always have a nice get together- and then I realize that some of us were in preschool together- unbelievable- that we all look so good!!! The girls love spending time with the family as well- Zoe had another ear infection on Thanksgiving and she is back on the antibiotic- I am so against this but I don't want her to be miserable. We already went to the ENT and have an appt. for next week to see where we go from here. I feel so bad for her - she has been such a good sport about me putting mineral oil in her ear. I really enjoy this time of year and can't wait to take the girls into the city to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and all the wonderful holiday festivities that take place at this time.

I did take the girls ice skating over the holiday weekend. My mother in law was nice enough to come with me. I actually was able to still skate ( a miracle ) and took Jordyn around the rink a few times. Then Zoe wanted a turn- I paid for her to go on the ice and the rented the skates- no double blades- only single. I couldn't turn back- my back was in such pain from trying to hold her up. She was so happy to get on the ice though- it was worth it for both girls. Here are some updated pictures.

Jordyn had asked awhile ago for tickets to see High School Musical on Ice. I told her we couldn't get them. Yesterday I picked her up from school and put a note on her seat in the car ( my friend Debby's idea) It said- be ready at 6:00. It's a surprise only for big girls- don't tell Zoe, Love daddy. Dave took her to see the show last night- she was so excited and happy. She got on the phone with me and couldn't stop saying- I love you Mommy!!! I love my family but my girlfriends and I had a blast!! There is nothing better than laughing for a whole weekend. We had massages, drinks, shopping, drinks,talking,drinks and then we went for dinner at Craft. I love my girlfriends and I love that my husband had no problem taking care of them all weekend. Although we tried hard to stay out Saturday night by 1:30 we were all ready to head home- gone are the days ( way gone) of closing the bars. Back to reality...

Jordyn's big girl weekend

I feel bad because Zoe has an ear infection but I promised to do all these great things with Jordyn this weekend-so I know to keep putting money away for both our daughters to be sitting on a couch somewhere in the near future.One of them is always pissed about something that has to do with the other- nothing like a little sibling rivalry.

Jordyn's school had a Halloween dance on Friday night. I could not have been more impressed- and it takes a lot. The PTA did a fabulous job. They had the whole gym was decorated with black and orange balloons and a ton of decorations. There was a DJ who had two dancers. The dancers were great- not over the top and showing the younger girls how to do certain dance moves without being inappropriate. They served food in the cafeteria. The children were all great- everybody was on good behavior. Jordyn did well for Jordyn and I was pretty shocked she said she wanted to leave around 8- instead of having a meltdown. It was very loud and stimulating for her but she held it together really well and I gave her plenty of outs if she wanted to take them. The music was good and this has been the closet I have come to "clubbing" in a long time. I was thinking how I wanted to sneak in some margaritas ( come on it's Friday night- school dance- just having some flashbacks) But I did not want to embarrass Jordyn anymore than necessary. There will be enough time for that. Anyway it was nice to see she has friends and that she is slowly adjusting to school.

Saturday we went to Chinese school- where I don't think it is possible to feel anymore inadequate. The teacher had us come to the board to write sentences and I wanted to ask her if I could do it in Spanish. I am having a very hard time with the Chinese and she must think I am a dope who does not study - she is absolutely correct. I don't know when these people are studying or if they already secretly speak Chinese but I'm like- I have two little kids at home and I work. I take this for fun and- great if I learn something but I'm not really counting on it. I did not verbalize that in class. Jordyn is already correcting my tones-of course she will soon find our her mom is a dope. At some point when the girls are older they'll be talking about me in Chinese and they will be laughing about-their mom. I can see it now- the two of them laughing at me in Chinese and saying there is no way I understand a word of what they are plotting. - Maybe Chinese school was not such a great idea.

Today I took Jordyn into the city with me. We went with another friend and her daughter to Serendipity's- home of the frozen hot chocolate. Those of you who visit this blog from out of state or country- this is a must if you ever visit NYC. The girls had a great time and were really well behaved. I of course gained another few pounds and Jordyn now has a new place to have awesome desserts. Zoe is going to have go to an ENT and we will take it from there. Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon.

Today was Zoe's birthday and I have to say- she truly enjoyed herself. We started with lunch at Johnny Rocket's and we lucked out that there was a petting zoo and pony rides outside. Jordyn was a good big sister- although a little jealous . I might add, add by the way- did so well this week- she received "stars" every morning for her "Good Morning Chart". I don't care what works, as long as everybody goes off to their designated places easily in the morning.

It's been challenging

to say the least.. Jordyn has not had the easiest transition into kindergarten. She is very jealous of Zoe at times and has said more than once she is scared at school. My girl has always been very sensitive and aware. I understand now how ignorant people let things slide or do not notice them at all. She will not tell me why she is scared- she says no one has bothered her- I know her school goes up to 5th grade and I know how loud and somewhat chaotic a public city school can be or at least seem to a small child. I am at a loss about what to do- she seems happy enough when she comes home and she has made friends. I find it amusing that the friends she has made are Chinese and Korean. Jordyn expressed how her Korean friend looks similar to Chinese people. We have all different friends, apparently that has not spilled over into her group yet. I find it almost fascinating. Zoe on the other hand wakes up in a great mood and just loves to laugh- she definately does not take everything so seriously. I hope in time I will spend as much alone time with her as I do with Jordyn. Jordyn's teacher has not said to much to me yet- I'm waiting for the conference in November. I did find it amusing though when we met her she said- oh- I guess Jordyn is adopted- I wanted to tell her Dave's first wife was Chinese but I think it may have confused her- so we just said yes. It has been somewhat difficult in our house these days- almost like you want to call Nanny 911. ( I know it is out of the question).

I have been reading and am almost done with Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes. The story is about a high school shooting. They should make it a mandatory read for all High school students and their parents. It really is so sad and a book that "stays" with you.

I am very happy to say the weather almost feels like fall now. It isn't that we don't like to go pumpkin/apple picking in 95 degree heat but it kind of sucks. You know it's bad when there are about 10 of us plus kids and we are all drenched just looking at each other like when can we leave. Next year we said we would just buy pumpkins and apples, put them in the yard and take pictures. Today finally felt like October. I will also add I love Halloween!!! Any day that we are allowed to go to people's houses and receive yummy candy is amazing by my standards ( which are not all that high at times). Jordyn asked what I was going to be for this joyous occasion- I don't think she understands my "witch costume" - not so much a costume ,although I'm sure when she is 12+ she'll be referring to me as a witch often and maybe even substituting the 'w 'for a' b 'here and there - who could imagine that.

I was just testing to see if it worked- it did. I am not that computer savvy, I just wanted to try it out. Of course now I'll be making slide shows all the time. The kitchen is officially done- I'll just pass on the info- I did not know- you can compromise your seal on granite if you use Palmolive soap that has the oxy crap in it. We have a nice mark now, right by our sink where the soap goes. It may as well say- Place soap here-idiot!! Now I know.

The kitchen really is almost done. There are now just a few minor things and we are very happy. We actually cooked in our new oven this evening- it almost felt a little weird. I feel like I am living in someone else's place. We had such a nice relaxing weekend ( as relaxing as it can be with an almost 2 year old) Jordyn and I had Chinese school- where she learns a lot and I learn how stupid I really am.

September Update

The kitchen is coming along and just about finished!! We are just waiting for the backsplash to be finished. It has been so nice to have our place almost back to normal. Jordyn seems to be enjoying kindergarten and is starting to adjust. It took a few weeks but she is starting to get into the swing of things. Zoe is still not so thrilled with her situation but it is getting better. At the end of the day Zoe is all over Jordyn- sitting on top of her, rolling on her bed, kissing her, etc... Meanwhile a bunch of us are planning a night in NYC and I cannot wait!!! Spa- dinner- dancing- not that I don't love every minute with my family but a few hours away is going to be a nice mini vacation!!

One Year Ago....

a beautiful baby girl was placed in our arms in the civil affairs office in downtown Nanchang. Zoe was so scared and screaming very loudly. Today she is a bundle of energy who loves to give all of us hugs and kisses. It is amazing to see such a huge transformation as the year has progressed.

A lot has been going on. I do not recommend anybody redo a kitchen with two small children right before school starts and the parent who is a teacher is going back to work as well. This does not make for a very calm transition for anyone. There are many things that have happened in the past few weeks while we have been living amongst boxes, cabinets and workmen. Zoe got her first haircut- pics to follow - and believe it or not Jordyn has started kindergarten. I find it amazing we have a daughter in elementary school when I am only just 18 years old. I feel like she has grown up so much in a week. She takes the bus both ways and is so independent. Zoe has not been happy with her current situation at daycare and continues to make that clear every morning I drop her off. I guess she found it more fun hanging out with the old lady at the beach all day. Now that things are finally starting to calm down I hope to post more. Don't be fooled we still aren't done- hopefully everything will be completed by this weekend. I also wanted to add Jordyn started Chinese school this past weekend ( I did as well) . She loved it and finds it amazing that I also have a class with a teacher. Those of you who know me - know I took Spanish for over 6 years and can only really speak it if I am drinking. This should be very interesting.

Things here are getting a little better. A lot of the work has been done- cabinets are starting to go in- that's a good sign, right? Things are going in- not coming out. Hopefully by the end of next week- we'll have fridge.

our life has been turned upside down

There are boxes throughout our living room, dishes in our closet and china in our entertainment center. We are hoping our kitchen is going to get started very soon. When the men delivered the cabinets today they thought there were two that were not going to fit into the apartment. One fit no problem, the other was a bit of a problem. The men insisted it was not going to fit through the doorway, they were right. I had to have the door removed but if that didn't happen, I swear I was going to Vaseline or K-Y the door. I was not having these men leave without having this last cabinet in the house. Anyway it looks like we have Home Depot in our house right now. Zoe is not very happy about it. I think I'm going to stay at my parents when the work starts.
On another topic I don't know if anyone is up on High School Musical but tonight was the big #2. Jordyn was very excited and could not wait to watch it. This must be the equivalent of how I feel about the Bourne movies.

Shock and Awe

I could not have done this without the help of two wonderful ladies at my beach club- Susie and Nikki. I can't believe I actually finished it. Zoe loves it!! She keeps walking around holding it. Jordyn didn't want one, she really only likes cotton.

Meanwhile, next week our cabinets are supposed to be delivered. We are gutting our kitchen and I have a stomach ache just thinking about it. I already had an issue with the cabinet people because of incompetence- so I hope they really do not mess up this order. Oh well- we like to keep it interesting around here.

This is really my favorite time of year- it couldn't have anything to do with not working right now- could it? I love being able to hang out with my friends and family. I love being on the beach with Zoe every day and bringing her to the pool. I think it is so great that she wants to try to swim, especially after she sees the bigger kids jumping in and doing it. Zoe actually has another ear infection right now ( her second one) which may be why she was so unhappy this weekend. So I have been trying to keep her head out of the water. I have found a wonderful way for her to take her meds though- in Mango juice from Trader Joe's. I put the Amoxicillan in that and there are no complaints.

The Telephone Call One Year Ago

Last year on this day I sat at the beach with Darrin and Amy and we waited for our phones to ring. Dave was at work, where he waited to hear from me. The referral phone calls are always so exciting. We were told we had a beautiful baby girl waiting for us in Shangrao in the Jiangxi province. Her name was Cha Wan and she was born in October. We are so happy we have truly been blessed with such sweet,funny,healthy,adorable daughters. Zoe runs after Jordyn and wants to be just like her big sister. She speaks in almost complete sentences, loves to color and has such a sweet way about her.

This past weekend we went up to Cape Cod to visit with Dave's cousins. They just opened a wonderful little sandwich shop in a town called Hull. It is on the beach and called Hull's Kitchen. The food is great and you can play some games on the porch while you eat. If anyone is in that area- please check it out. The owners are some very cool people.

The girls had a great time visiting although I have learned that Zoe does not travel as well as her big sister. She did not want to sleep there and it was very upsetting to hear her cry the way she did. The second night was much better than the first.

My heart can just burst when I look over at Jordyn and see the beautiful girl she is becoming. She is funny, kind, goofy and just loves to laugh all the time. ( I'm not just saying that because I'm he Mom- although that helps, I'm sure) Jordyn will be 5 on Wednesday and we had a party the other day in honor of her birthday. I'll be honest whenever one of my children now has a special occasion, I start to get very sad about the children that are still in the orphanages. I start to think how it sucks that they are having a birthday and what if nobody sings to them or acknowledges it. I think about the long wait to adopt in China and in some other countries where that isn't even possible ( like Cambodia) and all the children that are just there and waiting for something good to happen.- Sorry to be so deep- I just can't help it sometimes.
Jordyn has discovered Junie B. Jones and webkins- she got some great gifts and loved every minute of her party.
Zoe- on another note loves learning how to swim, loves her big sister - JuJu and is a delight to be with- she has such a wonderful personality- Don't get me wrong, I am TIRED!! I often feel like a cook just taking orders as well as a mediator- but it is a lot of fun.
On another note- I have started to knit again -wait until you see the sweater I have made for Zoe- everyone will be amazed and talking about it. I may make news!!
The other night I took Zoe to the dentist ( where I was told both of our girls will need braces- nice- no super sweet sixteen here) Zoe screamed the whole time but came out to see Jordyn with a kiss and a hug and to show her, the new toothbrush she got- too cute!!

Enjoy the pics!!! Schools out, how excited am I ???????? I love my job- this is one of the top 5 reasons!! I have the summer to be with my children. Also, heard good news today- one of the crappy teachers at Jordyn's school has been placed in pre-k so she won't have a chance of getting her in kindergarten next year. Good news!!!

FCC Weekend

I decided to take Jordyn on an FCC camp weekend. It was fantastic. The people who put it all together get a big kudos! It was awesome. There were plenty of activities for the children. They have camp all Saturday morning and they also have activities for the adults. Dr. Jane Aronson was there and spoke to us. I have heard her speak before, but I found her to be particularly interesting this time. I would guess it was because we spoke about issues we would deal with as the children get older and not really medical issues. They also had a panel from Also Known As ( older Korean adoptees) that was also very interesting.

Jordyn had a wonderful time and we shared a bunk with two really nice women and their daughters. The kids were able to take pony rides, do yoga, dance, Chinese brush painting, and other activities. My only wish was for electric in the bunk. I am really not a primadonna but a little light would have been a big help-also so Jordyn wouldn't have to sleep with me in my sleeping bag. I am definately going to go back next year and I think it is a wonderful thing for the kids to have a weekend like this. I also really just enjoyed being on a nice "nature" retreat with Jordyn. It's nice when there are no outside distractions- no tv, no phone, no computer.

It has been a very eventful week! Our first baby graduated!!!!( I know it's only preschool). I have to say I cried. I feel like I was able to keep her somewhat sheltered and now, I can't. Once they go into Kindergarten and they are in school with the "older" kids - they hear everything. I have to brag -last year when Jordyn was up on stage with the 3 year old class for their moving up ceremony all she did was scratch herself and barely sing- this year singing, dancing, shaking and having a great time and it truly was so wonderful to see her not have that same anxiety. All of the children did such a great job, they sang Frank Sinatra and songs from Hairspray. The finale was We Go Together from Grease. I really do understand now when people say enjoy every minute because it goes by so fast. Soon- she'll be rolling her eyes at me and telling me how she doesn't want to walk next to me when we're in public.

I did treat Jordyn to a manicure and pedicure the night before the big event. She was in heaven sitting next to me in one of those big chairs- her feet didn't even reach. I have to say that was one of the happiest moments I have ever witness her have. ( She won't be getting another pedicure until the next graduation).

We also took a trip down to Coney Island this weekend. Zoe loved the aquarium and it is really a blast to watch her with Jordyn looking at everything. The big difference between our two girls is Jordyn will never leave your side when we are out- Zoe would not only walk away if she could but would be happy to be in the show with the sea lions if possible. And I don't mean feeding them- I mean getting in the water with them.

On a different note - I'm a big fan of Kathy Griffen and am so happy her new season started. Love -My Life on the D-list. Also-any bets on The Sopranos this evening? I think they off Carmella and possibly Meadow- Tony goes into hiding so the show can always start again. Just my prediction, am curious what others think.

Getting ready for the beach!! The girls loved these dresses/cover ups bought by my Mom in Mexico.
I never gave Jordyn any candy until she got older. Unfortunately, I can't really do the same with Zoe. This little girl loves sugar!! I will add she still is a big fan of tofu,fresh vegetables and fruit. ( Thank goodness!!)

Ahhh Summer is Here!!

We spent a great weekend at the beach. I really love the beach so much- it may definitely be one of my favorite places on Earth. I just find it so calming until my kids are running all over the place and then it isn't so calm. They love the beach!! Zoe had a blast-she loved the pool, the other kids, everything. I also love that Jordyn can be so independent there. (It is a beach club- please don't think we just let her wander up and down the Atlantic coast). I also have many friends there who are knitters and help me with my projects. I just finished Jordyn's poncho and will post a photo at a later date. The one I made for Zoe is lost someplace in the mall-not my doing. I'll have to try to be adventurous and make her a sweater this summer. Oh well-let's see how much I can really accomplish.

for Dora. Dave brought her home a blow up Dora after he went to an amusement park with Jordyn. I had taken Zoe with me to Chinatown in NYC. I really do find it to be so amazing how much easier it is with one. That being said I am starting to itch for #3. We have no room here but at some point when we move in the next few years and the girls are older I hope to be able to bring an older boy home. I wouldn't adopt somebody older than Zoe because I don't think I would want to mess with the "birth order". I could see a 5 or 6 year old. Of course, Dave probably couldn't see it. Is it possible to have an accidental adoption? On my g-d!!! I don't know how that paperwork was filled out?!! It must have been the timing, I can't believe we were given a I-171H. How could that happen? I'll just have to sneak the social worker into my house for the home study. I know I have a few years before this happens- and it will happen:)!!

We went to check out Long Island City today. The views of Manhattan are awesome and I love all the cute little bistros popping up all over the place. Jordyn kept asking to go back to play by the ocean. ( AKA the river) Have I not been taking this child to the beach every summer? We belong to a beach club where Jordyn goes to camp. How is she not able to distinguish the two types of water? Oh well!!

What to do with this hair?

Zoe's hair is coming in really think and almost wavy. Right now though, I feel like it's too short to do anything with it. I am happy to take suggestions. I have tried clips and she just keeps pulling them out. I like the headband but she didn't keep this on for more than two minutes- long enough to take the picture.

On another note- I read a lot of different blogs, especially those of other adoptive families. There has been some discussion about some of the blogs being all light and airy. I know I post pictures that are cute and of the girls having fun. I don't really like to discuss all the "heavy" stuff and believe nobody would want to see a picture of one of my kids in full rage mode. I think their emotional issues are theirs and I don't think I should post it.

Zoe has discovered Dora. She isn't speaking spanish yet but she loves,loves,loves Dora. I happen to think right now she looks a little bit like Dora. I think it might be the hair.

There are of course many differences between the girls and one of them is their size, Zoe is much taller and bigger than Jordyn. The nice thing is Jordyn could wear an outfit for more than a year and as of last summer was still wearing some 24 month, 2T clothes ( she was 4). Zoe is now wearing her pj's from last summer. I just donated bags of clothes because Zoe is growing by the minute. I am not complaining it just is something I'm not used to.

to express the sadness that I have felt this week. My eyes fill up with tears every time I think of those 32 people who were lost at Virginia Tech that day. There is also another part of me who feels very bad for the family of that mentally ill boy. As a parent it is so hard to believe that our children are not always safe at school. As a teacher, I want children to come and tell us when they are upset or going through turmoil. We need to step in when we see children bullying others or hurting each others feelings. I will never understand why we need to have guns in the first place. There is just too much sadness that sometimes I don't think I can handle it.

You know when all of a sudden it just clicks ( with the kids). This vacation it happened. All of a sudden Zoe has seemed to become extremely attached. We thought she was before but now it is with all of us. She wants to be wherever Jordyn is now as well. The girls share a room and now Zoe doesn't even want to go to sleep at night if she isn't in there. Even when we move, we decided the girls will continue to share a room. I have taken the girls to a lot of different places this vacation and they truly enjoyed being together a lot.

This morning Jordyn had a request for my waffles and then we went to the zoo. Zoe was terrified when we saw the gorillas, I think she didn't understand they couldn't touch us. She was extremely upset by the big silver back that was only about a foot away.

On another note I watched a film from Netflix last night. It was called, For the Children. It was a Chinese movie and I highly recommend it. It is about a woman who loses her husband and child and teaches in the desert in China. During this time a teacher from Beijing comes and it is about their friendship.

Well, tomorrow I go back to work and the girls go back to school and daycare. I know Zoe will not be happy.

Fun filled vacation!!

We have had a very nice week and a few days off. We had two wonderful Passover sedars one with family and one with friends. Great food and lots of fun. I have tried very hard to keep the girls occupied. We have visited the aquarium in Norwalk, Conn. went to the Long Island Children's Museum, playdates and then this weekend we went to an Easter egg Hunt and the Museum of Natural History. Let me say Jordyn has had a great time at everything and poor Zoe for the most part has to stay in her stroller. Zoe loves to be very active and is quite the little dare devil. When we were at the aquarium they had a tank to touch the sting rays, Jordyn was trying to touch them and Zoe wants to dive in and swim with them.

Zoe has some wonderful new tricks- she holds the milk in her mouth and then lets it dribble out. I love this trick especially since we have carpeting. She also likes to dive from the couch to the ottoman ( which she broke last week- it had wheels and now it has none). We did get her ears pierced this weekend.

Family Day Celebration!!

We had a very weekend celebrating with Jordyn and friends and family. We took the girls on Saturday into NYC to go to the Disney store and to eat dinner at Mars2112. Jordyn and her Dad took the spaceship ride and met me in the restaurant part. The highlight of the weekend was when Jordyn asked how we were going to get home. If only going to Mars was so quick. The girls were a little afraid of the Martians but they had a great time. Today we celebrated with our family and friends. Jordyn was so happy a ll weekend.She loved watching the video of when she was a baby in China and how we became a family. She also really loves the book I made for her. Now I just have to really start Zoe's because she is definitely going to get the short end of the deal and have major 2nd child syndrome.

It was 4 years ago tomorrow that we became a family of 3. I remember it like it was yesterday. Dave and I were so excited- the anticipation of holding our baby in our arms was almost indescribable. We took 3 airplanes to get to Kunming and had about 2 hours to pull ourselves together before we were able to meet Jordyn.

Jordyn- you are such a blessing to us!! You were so quiet and scared when we met you, and now you are such a big girl, full of life and fun!! You are such a great big sister and we are always so proud of you. Happy family day!!!!!

No- not the fun kind. Zoe went to the Pediatrician today and received 4 shots, she was quite the trooper. She is growing very nicely and really has the nicest way about her. Jordyn stepped up to the plate as a big sister and gave her some stickers.

On another note- I saw Angelina Jolie came home with her new son. Knowing all we do about how difficult it is for some children to transition ( especially a 3 year old) to new surroundings, I hope the press respects the fact that this boy has been through enough without them swarming around. Don't get me wrong I would love to be with Brad Pitt as my new surroundings, I just hope this child is not completely traumatized by all of this.

Ok- Fever has broken -Jordyn has gone back to school and all seems a little better right now. I will keep everyone very low key the next few days. Zoe has been talking so much-today someone on a tv show started to count- one and I heard her say two. Having a big sister is definately a plus.

The past few days have sucked because the girls, especially Jordyn have been and continues to be sick. Zoe just seems to have a bad cold. Jordyn is going on her 7th day of fever. We took her to the "urgicenter" last Thursday night when she had 104.3- they told me I don't have to bring her in because they don't consider that to be dangerous-guess what- tough sh**, in our house that's a problem. I love the questions from the people on call, too. "Well, how does she look?" Me- "how do you think she looks with over 104- like crap".

We bring her in - they tell us it's viral - Fine I make them test her for mono and anemia. I'm still waiting for the results. I know it's only Monday and they didn't go out until Friday but I'm a little impatient. Today we had kindergarten registration and you must bring your child with you. So- she was out in the cold- waiting for our number- she was a champ. I bring her to my mom's after where she slept all day. I finally speak to my pediatrician-she wants to see her tomorrow if she still has fever-which she still does. So- that's it- I vented. I'm very upset, Jordyn has been sleeping all day and I just want her to feel better very soon- like tomorrow.

A few days away and now...we're back!!

Well I know I shouldn't feel guilty for going away for 2 nights, so I won't. We decided to go for some alone time-together. It was definitely needed. The great thing was both girls were given completely individual attention by each grandmother. Jordyn had a wonderful time of shopping and coloring without her little sister around to bother her- and Zoe had full rights to the house and all the toys. When I fist became a mom, I wouldn't leave Jordyn for months to really go away and even then I called constantly and couldn't really relax. I have to say this time- called alot but certainly relaxed!!! Our promise to Jordyn ( or bribe) was 2 trips on the Ferris Wheel in Toys-R-Us and a visit to the M&M store as well. Here are some of todays pics- Zoe was in daycare-so Jordyn had both parents to herself.

Happy New Year!! I took Jordyn to Radio City with our friends-Michele, Emily and Murray to see the Chinese New Year Spectacular. The girls were great and the show was wonderful. A few singing solos that were a little hard for the girls to sit through but they were great.

We took the girls out for dinner on Sunday night and they were all dressed up and happy to eat a ton of noodles and dumplings! I'm hoping for warm weather on Sunday so we can go to the parade in Chinatown.
